‘Riptide’ breaks record for longest run on ARIA Chart

Vance Joy has added another momentous achievement to his rapidly-expanding collection, with ‘Riptide’ setting a new record for the most weeks in the Top 100 of the ARIA Singles Chart.  ‘Riptide’ has now spent 107 consecutive weeks in the chart.

It trumps Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ at 106 weeks in the Top 100 and The Black Eyed Peas ‘I Gotta Feeling’ at 105 weeks, neither of which were consecutive runs.  The song entered the ARIA Singles Chart on April 29, 2013, peaking at #6 on February 3, 2014. It has spent five weeks in the Top 10 and a whopping 45 weeks in the Top 50.  The previous Australian best result was for Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, which remained in the Top 100 for 89 weeks from 2011 to 2013.

‘Riptide’ was also bestowed another accolade recently, winning the Grand Prize at the inaugural International Songwriting Competition. It was the first time in the history of the competition that a song received perfect scores from the judging panel.

Whilst these new honours belong to ‘Riptide’, Vance Joy’s current single ‘Georgia’ also notched up a milestone this week, reaching platinum status.  The Top 20 ARIA Single is currently being played across commercial radio nationwide, this week at #15 on the Hot 100 airplay chart.

Since the conclusion of his Australian Tour in March, the Melbourne musician has kept himself busy with festival appearances and headline gigs abroad, including an acclaimed performance at Coachella that saw the Mojave tent overflowing with eager fans.

Next week, Vance Joy joins Taylor Swift as the main support for her 1989 World Tour. The tour will see him on the road for the rest of the year, playing to literally hundreds of thousands of fans across multiple countries.

In anticipation of the tour, Vance Joy released a stunning, stripped back cover of Swift’s ‘I Know Places’, from the album 1989.  Already close to 600,000 views on YouTube, the video has garnered attention from all over the globe, with Swift herself touting its praises to her 57.2 million fans on Twitter. “There have been so many amazing covers of 1989 songs… I’m going to be bold enough to say this one is my favourite.”
