Following the news of her recent signing to Liberation Music for Australia and New Zealand, Julia Jacklin is today pleased to announce the release of her ambitious debut album, Don’t Let The Kids Win, out this October 7. The news coincides with the release of Jacklin’s latest musical offering, the stunning ‘Leadlight’.

“I filmed this music video in my old high school hall in the Blue Mountains. A lot of the shots focus on the stage where I performed in the chorus for ‘Grease’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and the unfortunate time I chose to sing ‘Wonderwall’ to a backing CD for a senior assembly. I went back there recently and saw the hall in a whole new light. When I was at school I never really thought about it, it was just a boring school hall that I was forced to sit in for long assemblies and exams. Now I think it’s a really beautiful space.” – Julia Jacklin

Having garnered high praise after performances at SXSW, The Great Escape and more recently a string of sold out tour dates throughout Australia and Europe, and with global record and agency deals now signed, the Blue Mountains native is poised to have a breakout year.

Indeed, Jacklin’s debut single ‘Pool Party’ gained worldwide attention on release, with influential tastemakers NPR, Consequence Of Sound, DIY Mag, The 405 and Noisey (to name but a few), all singing her praises. She has piqued the interest of specialist radio gurus from Radio 1, triple j, BBC 6, double j, triple j Unearthed (where she was named ‘Artist of the Week’) and Apple Music UK who featured her single on their ‘Best New Artist’ playlist.

Jacklin’s masterful debut album expands on the sentiment of ‘Pool Party’, offering an intimate examination of a life still being lived, as the young singer song-writer reflects on who she is and who she might become.  Recorded in New Zealand with producer Ben Edwards, Don’t Let The Kids Win courses with the aching current of alt-country and indie-folk, augmented by Jacklin’s undeniable calling cards: her rich, distinctive voice, and her playful, observational wit.

Now, as Jacklin quits a factory job making essential oils to focus solely on music, and with the release of her new song and album details, the future she had once imagined is fast becoming her present day reality. “It feels really good to be getting closer to my first album release, it has been a long time dream of mine.”

Jacklin will play an East Coast headline tour in late July, supported by Sydney up and comers Middle Kids, before heading out on a world tour that includes nine major festivals and support slots with rising buzzworthy Chicago act, Whitney, plus New Zealander, and Australian favourite, Marlon Williams.

‘Leadlight’ is available now. Don’t Let The Kids Win is out on October 7.
